Pania Newton, the public face of SOUL – Save our Unique Landscapes – discusses her upbringing and what drives her to protect her village at Ihumātao in Māngere.
At the age of 9 Pania Newton knew she wanted to become a lawyer. In 2015 aged 25, she realised that dream. But when survey pegs started to appear on the land next door to her village at Ihumātao in Māngere… her life took a sudden and unexpected turn. Pania left behind her career in law to dedicate her life to the preservation of Ihumātao a place where she has lived now for 3 years as the public face of SOUL – Save our Unique Landscapes – A new age freedom fighter – This is her story – Pania Newton – Indigenous 100.
